MWELA Supreme Court Admissions Ceremony
Tuesday, December 03, 2019, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM EDT
Category: MWELA Events

Take advantage of a unique opportunity to join the bar of the United States Supreme Court, with the help of MWELA.

MWELA is hosting its second Supreme Court Admissions Ceremony. The 2019 event will be held at the Court on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. Although we do not know what cases will be argued that morning, the MWELA members who were admitted during the first Admissions Ceremony were fortunate to witness the fascinating argument in the Colorado cake shop discrimination case.

Refreshments will be served in the Supreme Court conference room prior to the ceremony. All of the newly admitted applicants and their guests will return to the conference room after being admitted to the bar. We will hopefully be joined by one or more of the Justices for questions and a group photo.

Applications must be submitted by hand delivery or overnight mail no later than Friday, September 27, 2019, to MWELA’s office, located at 2800 Eisenhower Ave, Suite 210, Alexandria, VA 22314. If you wish to participate, please contact MWELA at [email protected], as only up to 12 individuals can be admitted. If more than 12 express an interest, then we will prepare a waiting list.

MWELA will provide the applicants with the application form that includes the contact information for the two sponsors. The information that the Supreme Court will require you to provide is given on the blank form: https://www.supremecourt.gov/bar/barapplication.pdf

You must also submit a check in the amount of $200, payable to the U.S. Supreme Court, and a Certificate of Good Standing from the highest court of D.C. or a state where you have been admitted to practice for at least three years. We recommend the D.C. Court of Appeals, as the Certificate can be obtained online; other states usually require mailing a letter and check to the state court.
