D.C. Bar: Changing Currents in Employment Law
Tuesday, October 25, 2022, 6:00 PM EDT
Category: Other Events of Interest

Each October, DC-area employment lawyers gather for Changing Currents in Employment Law. Organized by the D.C. Bar, it’s a three-credit CLE that offers updates on *five* timely topics in our fast-changing field.

The 2022 event will be held in person and via Zoom on the evening of Tuesday, October 25, starting at 6:00pm. Each subject area will be addressed by two attorneys — defense and plaintiff’s side — who collaborate to identify their zones of agreement, likely conflicts, and practice tips for each side.

The D.C. Bar is offering a discount of $40 for early registrants — register now for the in-person session or a live Zoom edition. (The discount will show up at checkout.)

Our lead-off panel this year is about a movement to limit the use of non-compete provisions in employment contracts, which is exemplified by a new non-compete law that’s about to take effect in DC. The topic will be addressed by defense attorney Christine Burke of Lorenger & Carnell and, on the plaintiff side, Carla Brown of Charlson Bredehoft Cohen Brown & Nadelhaft.

Scott Oswald, Faculty Chair of Changing Currents in Employment Law, a DC Bar CLE spoke recently with Christine to get a preview of the panel: Check out their 4-minute discussion here.

The other topics we’ll cover on October 25:

  • Shifting Definitions of “Joint Employer” in Labor and Employment Law
  • Whistleblower, Trade Secret Protection, and Employee Data Misuse Cases Under the CFAA
  • The Impact and Future of the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act
  • Legal Challenges of a Permanently Remote Workforce

Remember the $40 early-bird discount, which means you’ll pay a maximum of $89 for three CLE credits — or as low as $49 for D.C. Bar members.
